MEET THE RESISTANCE! Yes, this hostile administration might be terrorizing the very populations that it is supposed to be serving, beginning, as always, with the most vulnerable. Families separated, people that can’t risk visiting their dying love ones for fear of not being able to return to their homes, immigrants of color looking over their shoulders, queer friends scare of being in public; the people serving the very public institutions that are supposed to be there for us are scared… the country is paralyzed in fear and in exhaustion and in disbelief; and yet, SPACES FOR RESISTANCE ARE BEING CREATED, ALLIANCES ARE BEING MADE. I witness all of these at the Association of Writers and Writing Programs LA Conference this year. Writers, editors, publishers, illustrators, nonprofit arts organizations, journals, professors, students, foundations, distributors… each exhibitor (there were a thousand of us) and individual in attendance with their own story strategizing, mentoring, forming coalitions to resist. AWP was inspiring, exhausting, empowering, nurturing, joyful, loving, luminous, and daring.

Deshacer la maleta y sacar los maravillosos materials que me traje se hace en un momento. Ahora toca releer apuntes, notitas, action items y empezar a mandar emails, enviar libros, schedule zooms… y leer y escribir y resistir. I am so fucking grateful for the past few days in LA at #AWP25
Una velada de resistencia en Boyle Heights organizada y curada por las revistas Huizache y Rio Grande Review. Un lujo formar parte de esta lectura en el espacio Latinx with Plants. GRACIAS
